Which are better, California or French cabernets?

A blind taste test pisses off many.

All I can say about this particular taste-off is duh! Of course California cabernets would come out on top in a tasting of wines that are seriously over the hill, as the warm California sunshine means that the Napa wines will have higher levels of extract and tannin needed to survive 35 years. A fairer way to compare Napa vs. Bordeaux would have been to do vertical (i.e. multi-year) tastings of the same wines over a given time period, and then to score them on that basis. This to me seems like an apples-to-oranges comparison that does neither California nor France justice.
